First timers guide to the Festival

So, you haven’t been to Perth Festival and want to give it a try? Then this is the guide for you!

We've put together some suggestions of how to experience our massive 2025 program. Whether you want to dive right in or just try a taste, we've thought of it all.

Free music, sunset, vibes riverside

Why not ease yourself into the Festival with some early evening free music by the river? We’re transforming the old East Perth Power Station into a Festival hub and it’s going to be the summer venue for catching up with friends – and making new ones.

Casa Musica happens every Wednesday to Sunday at the Power Station. It’s inspired by the piazzas of southern Europe so you can expect laid back family friendly vibes, hanging on the grass enjoying food, drinks and amazing music. Seriously this line up would be celebrated at any of the world’s best music festivals and you can enjoy it all for free!

See art light up an iconic building

While you’re at East Perth Power Station you can also see the building lit up with stunning new artworks created by First Nations artists as part of Boorloo Contemporary. And if you’re feeling like more music, grab yourself a ticket to see a band or DJ on our Main Stage and dance the night away.

Have a rockin’ night out at the theatre!

If you’re looking for a fun night out at the theatre, then you can’t go wrong with a feel-good Aussie musical. And we just happen to have the perfect one – Big Name, No Blankets.

It’s the story of the Warumpi Band, the first band to sing in Aboriginal languages, who went from the heart of the Central Desert to taking on the rock world! Whether you know the songs or not, you’ll be moving in your seat to this rock ‘n’ roll theatre show that features a live band on stage.

Come on a Tuesday night and you and a friend get two tickets for the price of one! You can bring your own picnic or get food and a drink at the venue for a great night out.

Experience a truly unique 12 hour event
(don't worry, you don't have to stay the whole time)

12 Last Songs is an event you would only get in Festival time. Over 12 hours a whole range of people from Perth (real people, not actors!) turn up to Heath Ledger Theatre and do a paid shift in front of a live audience. While they either describe or do their job, they're asked a series of questions about life.

You can walk around and hear about their work or see them in action. Come and go as you please and stay as long or as little as you like and even better pay whatever you can – there’s no set ticket price.

Go full Festival!

Festivals are all about experiencing things that don’t happen here every day. If you’re up for giving something new a try, you can’t get a more 'Festival' event than the epic Mahabharata.

This ancient Sanskrit poem about dynasties vying for control of a kingdom (Succession vibes anyone?) comes to life on stage in three parts –  you can either just see one part or go full Festival and experience it all. Read about the four ways to experience it here.
