‘The thrill of a Savall concert is always a sense of discovery … his magnificent ensembles create a transportive narrative out of unfamiliar music.’ Washington Post
Jordi Savall brings to Perth Concert Hall his extraordinary ensemble of early music specialists Hespèrion XXI and Mexico’s Tembembe Ensamble Continuo for a rousing program of dance music that masterfully mixes 15th and 16th century European music, indigenous Mexican and Latin American sounds and contemporary improvisations. Performing on historical Renaissance instruments and those from popular folk tradition, these virtuoso musicians create an atmosphere that is more like a party than a performance – full of rich colour, rhythm and a joyous sense of spontaneity.
Catalan early-music legend Jordi Savall is acclaimed around the world for bringing to life little-known musical gems from the Middle Ages to the Baroque era. In his hands the viola de gamba is constantly transformed by breathtaking fingering, bowing and plucking, making each performance a vibrant celebration that is as much visual spectacle as sonic experience.
