A foremost director of American independent cinema since the 1980s, Jim Jarmusch’s films are known for their minimal atmospheres, un-showy locations, dry humour and pop cultural references. Jarmusch is also renowned for his orientation towards actors, and over the years these have included John Lurie, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Bill Murray, Roberto Benigni and Forest Whitaker. A musician, Jarmusch has also directed documentaries on musicians Neil Young and Iggy Pop, and music videos for Neil Young, Talking Heads, Tom Waits and Big Audio Dynamite. His films have won over three dozen awards.
