Bringing their tongue-twisting rhymes and legendary beats to Perth, Blackalicious is set to transform Chevron Festival Gardens into an old-school block party. But before they jump on the mainstage, we talk to one half of this lyrical rap duo – DJ/producer Chief Xcel, aka Xavier Mosley.

What is the greatest thing about being a musician?

Connecting with people around the planet.

What's your pre-show ritual?

Standing in the crowd before the show to feel the energy around us.

Who is your favourite artist right now and why?

Too many to name because I love so many different types of music. I really like the ERIMAJ record. ‘Conflict of a man’ is a stellar tune.

It’s a transference of energy.

Something most people don’t know about you:

I hate cantaloupe and cottage cheese.
