With the summer season still kicking on now is the perfect time to enjoy activities that get the kids out of the house and inspired for the year ahead.
You won’t be surprised to see a theme of interactivity for our kid-friendly events this year! We’re excited to see families singing along, stepping on stage, listening to stories and exploring the limits of their imagination - all in the name of celebrating the arts.
1. FAMILY DAY IN FREO
Bringing the sunshine and good vibes to Fremantle Arts Centre for a FREE day of activities
The perfect chance to bring a young book lover to experience the magic of Writers Weekend!
Featuring FREE story time, talks, workshops, in conversation sessions with children’s authors and illustrators and plenty of interactive events, this is the perfect morning out to inspire and entertain young readers.

2. PANAWATHI GIRL
An all-singing, all-dancing musical overflowing with joy and adventure
This bold new production from WA theatre company Yirra Yaakin follows Molly Chubb – a young heroine returning to her country town after living in the big bright city of Perth.
She’s met with hippies, cowboys, politicians and protesters as she tries to search for her place in the world (and in the Pilbara). The musical tunes are incredibly catchy and the themes around identity and belonging are universal.
Pre-teens and teenagers will fall in love with this rodeo adventure.

3. THE SMALLEST STAGE
Co-starring animated monsters and illustrated superheroes
This heart-warming true story explores the love and connection between parent and child with delightful, innovative storytelling. Writer Kim Crotty’s short stories are lovingly re-told through a mixture of live drawing, puppetry, animation and even a plate of mushy peas and refried beans.
Option – you can choose an interactive ticket which involves wearing headphones and receiving audio-guided instructions for the full duration of the show. This is designed for a child aged 9-14 accompanied by a parent.

4. PATCH’S LIGHTHOUSE
Do your kids love Scitech? Then this event is not to be missed!
Designed for all ages to enjoy, this house of marvels is a series of interconnected rooms that explore different uses with the magic of light! Perfectly combining science and art to spark curiosity and encourage engagement with the performers up-close.

5. NOONGAR WONDERLAND
Perry Lakes comes alive with this multi-sensory experience guided by stories of Country
Weave your way through an immersive light and sound installation throughout the parklands after the sun has set and the energy of the land comes alive. Sit with First Nations artists and handcraft something both age-old and new, creating life-long family memories.
This is Noongar-futurism for the old, the young, for everyone - more details on the journey to be released in the coming weeks.
