‘She’s pure American muscle. Guitars snarl and spit, stares are deep and wise.’
‘Sounds like lightning in a bottle. ’
A double bill of irresistibly poetic pop featuring two of the USA’s hottest young indie artists – Margaret Glaspy and Frankie Cosmos.
A goddess of wistful articulation, Glaspy bares all with her stellar vocals, honest lyrics and low-slung electric guitar. An instrumental demon, unafraid to mine the depths of relationships, heartache and tenderness, Glaspy’s album Emotions and Math is a revelation.
Cut from a similar cloth, Frankie Cosmos combines observational witticisms with low-fi, yet bouncy pop. Weaving tales in the vein of Courtney Barnett and Converse-sporting heroines of the 90s – a sound she embraces and reinvents with flair – Cosmos has a stream of fan girls and boys on her trail across the globe.
Opening the evening is Perth’s own Mosquito Coast, a band whose kit bag of sweet dream-pop ditties has rapidly captured the imagination of tastemakers across the country.
